Disadvantages Of Spell Check

Spell Check

Will Spell Check benefit you in the long run?

When you get a word wrong, several corrections come up and you are asked to choose one of them. But there is sometimes where you don’t choose a correction due to the context the work is in. This can be really helpful if spelling is one of your weaknesses. But what are the disadvantages?

For example, when you are going through your work after you have finished it you will be checking for any errors so you will be able to improve your work. When a word is wrong you have a set of options to change it to the correct spelling, so you will choose the correct spelling, however, this could make the sentence not make any sense.

Another disadvantage is that if you are on a mobile device you will have auto correct, which means if a word is wrong it will change to another word which can make a small message difficult to send.

Also the language settings you have on Microsoft Office allows you to only have one language which means you cannot put e.g. a Spanish word in the word document without the document saying you have spelt it wrong. This would mean it would be hard to quote a certain word in another language without having it come up as incorrect.

Many names and words are also not in the Microsoft Office dictionary which means they will come up as incorrect so you will have to put them into the dictionary. So when you are typing it could change to the word you put in the dictionary. Also the word could be spelt wrong so when you put it in the dictionary the misspelt word will appear.

Another disadvantage is that it will not sort out the grammar for you so the words could be spelt properly but the sentence could not make sense. This is a weakness because if you do not proof read it the grammar will be wrong.
